THE CITYWIDE Asphalt Group JV has unveiled a refreshed brand as its prepares to begin operations at its new Laverton plant.
Reflecting its expansion plans, the joint venture has rebranded from Citywide North Melbourne Asphalt to Citywide Asphalt Group (Aus) and revealed a new-look logo.
The refreshed brand also reflects the Group’s sustainability credentials as it looks to dramatically scale up the volume of recycled products it can use in manufacturing its asphalt products.
The group’s two plants will also be powered by 100 per cent renewable energy after signing on as a foundation partner of MREP2 - the second Melbourne Renewable Energy Project, which facilitates collective power purchasing with other corporate organisations.
Darryl Byrne, General Manager of the Citywide Asphalt Group, said lowering carbon emissions was an integral part of the sustainable asphalt manufacturing process.
“We have to play our part and this is where our new asphalt plants really fit into that piece of a puzzle,” Darryl said.
“We will be the first asphalt plant or asphalt producer in Australia to be powered up by 100 per cent renewable energy.”
Darryl said renaming the former Citywide North Melbourne Asphalt business enabled the JV to address commercial scale and growth opportunities, particularly amid Victoria’s current infrastructure boom and - in Laverton, specifically - servicing one of Australia’s fastest growing regions in Melbourne’s west.
To demonstrate its sustainability credentials, the Citywide Asphalt Group recently resurfaced five iconic streets in the City of Melbourne with recycled asphalt product, including Flinders Street (pictured below, left).
“We’ll be looking to have a full suite of products to take to the market that will have at least 50 per cent recycled content,” Darryl said.
“With the advent of the newer product we’ve developed a trademarked branding –Greenpave Plas – our Greenpave with plastic additive. That particular product has a recycled content of greater than 50 per cent.”
The new Laverton plant will be officially commissioned in mid-March.
